This week, Liberty Global CEO Mike Fries and CFO Charlie Bracken visited ourLondon headquarters for an in-depth fireside chat with the team, sharing strategic insights and outlining ambitious plans for the rapidly growing business services company.

AI driving the future of business services

During the discussion hosted by Joe Gallagher, our Chief Commercial & Operations Officer, Mike emphasised the transformative role of artificial intelligence in the company’s trajectory.

“AI is going to change absolutely everything you do – how you do it, how quickly you do it, how cleverly you do it,” he said. “Your customers’ expectations are being amped up every day by what they’re experiencing with AI in their personal and business lives.”

He noted Liberty Blume’s AI strategy is strengthened by Liberty Global’s technology infrastructure and a growing partner ecosystem that includes industry leaders such as Google.

Agility in a disrupted market

Mike and Charlie highlighted our unique advantage as an agile, entrepreneurial challenger in a market where incumbents face the challenge of transforming complex legacy systems as AI transforms the industry.

“[The industry] is about to be massively disrupted, which is good if you’re an attacker, not good if you’re an incumbent. That is the big opportunity for you. There is a chance to be that tech enabled, AI-first services company,” Mike said.

But that entrepreneurial mindset needs to be paired with an inspired workforce. When asked for his single most important piece of advice, Mike was unequivocal: “If you don’t have great people, none of it matters. It doesn’t matter how good your technology is, how good your business plan is, or how good the market’s growing.”

A customer-first, tailored service

He also highlighted Liberty Blume’s approach to customer relationships, with leadership called out as being fundamental to the company’s success.  “If you don’t have happy customers and satisfied customers, you have no business. This is a customer-focused business,” Mike said.

It’s a mentality that’s shaping the company’s ethos, he said, suggesting the emphasis is on shifting from an internal perspective to genuinely asking: “What does the customer want? What’s right for them, not what’s right for us?”

The panel concluded their discussion celebrating Liberty Blume‘s position at an exciting inflection point. “You’re here at the beginning,” Mike told the team. “Hopefully, this becomes a multi-billion dollar enterprise, which I have no reason to believe it won’t be unless we don’t get some of these basics right – technology, market focus, and, of course, putting customers first.”
